EXTRA Program for Healthcare Improvement

The 14-month EXTRA program for healthcare improvement supports teams of up to four health leaders in the design, implementation and evaluation of an improvement project in their own organization or ministry, or with multi-site teams. The program offers teams training in better management and use of evidence for quality and performance improvement.

As a partner with CFHI’s EXTRA Program, the College has established a strategic alliance whereby the EXTRA Fellows who are members of the College are formally recognized when they enroll in the CHE or Fellowship programs.

For about this program, please visit CFHI .

The College is very proud of its members who have been awarded EXTRA Fellowships. View the list of EXTRA Fellows by year below.

2014 EXTRA Fellows

"It was such an honour to have been selected to participate in The EXTRA Program. By participating in research based interventions projects and collaborating with other national EXTRA team members, I see a direct link to improving safety at the bedside for patients and families at Bruyere Continuing Care.  I'm looking forward to sharing my EXTRA fellowship experience with other leaders in the organization encouraging them to consider it as a professional development goal. 2009 EXTRA Fellows

"I have supported three fellows in previous cohorts of the EXTRA program and my organization benefited from the experience. As I approached developing a new organization it continued to be important to me that we do our work considering the available evidence as much as possible. The EXTRA program is a great support as I consider the evidence regarding  the role policy plays in bringing about change. It is great to work with colleagues across the country as we continue our learning in this challenging and supportive environment."
