Working collaboratively with the Director, Mental Health & Addictions and the clinical teams, the Manager is responsible for the overall management and operations of the services for the Inpatient Mental Health and the Law and Forensic Outreach Programs. The Manager is accountable for the quality of service patients receive and for monitoring and maintaining appropriate standards of an interdisciplinary professional mental health team in accordance with established standards of practice and policy.

The manager leads and collaborates with the inter-professional teams to achieve operational and patient-centred care objectives within the services. The role includes creating and maintaining a supportive environment for patients, families and staff; providing leadership; facilitating staff and team development; including performance management;managing budgets and resources; and initiating and monitoring quality improvement and safety initiatives.

In addition the Manager will be a mentor, a motivator, and an advocate for the Services, and play a key role in shaping their future direction.

The successful candidate will possess the following required qualifications:
  • Baccalaureate degree and evidence of continuing education/learning
  • Current membership with a regulated professional college preferred
  • Minimum of three (3) years of recent management or advanced practice experience/knowledge working with the Forensic population
  • Demonstrated excellence in clinical-reasoning, critical thinking skills, assessment, documentation, intervention and care planning skills
  • Ability to support the interdisciplinary approach to patient centred care and recovery principles
  • Demonstrated excellence in budgeting and financial management skills
  • Superior leadership, communication, team building and creative problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated excellence in human resource management skills including recruitment, retention, supervision and motivation of staff
  • Demonstrated ability to ensure safety and risk management practices within the program
  • Experience with change management and innovation in a team environment
  • Demonstrated coaching and empowering style of management
  • Ability to ensure compliance with established standards of practice, corporate policies and guidelines
  • Demonstrated ability to assess complex needs, to determine interventions, prioritize services required and implement solutions
  • Ability to manage conflicting priorities/multiple demands
  • Demonstrated experience implementing policies, procedures, objectives, standards and quality improvement measures
  • Knowledge of consent and capacity issues and legislation involving this population (e.g. Public Guardian Trustee, Substitute Decision Maker Act, Health Care Consent ACT; Mental Health Act; PHIPA) preferred
  • Familiarity with collective agreements/labour relations, scheduling
  • Demonstrated ability to support and contribute to a culture of safety and prevention of adverse health events and promotion of quality in our organization
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset
