Leadership Qualities: Exit Interview with a Minister of Health

November 23, 2018
8:30 a.m. - 9:30 a.m.  Central Time
9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. Eastern Time

Leadership should not be defined by education, title or an organization chart. Leaders in today’s health care system should be found throughout the organization. The Minister of Health has the ultimate authority, through the Health Boards and senior management, to set the direction and create a sense of shared purpose to ensure health services enable residents to achieve the best possible quality of life. Changes to the system will only be sustained when leadership is evident at all levels of an organization.

This informational session will examine the qualities and attributes required by today’s health care leaders as identified by the past Minister of Health. The Honourable Kelvin Goertzen will be interviewed by 680 CJOBs Richard Cloutier, who has an extensive resume in healthcare reporting. During the registration process participants will have an opportunity to submit questions.

The Honourable Kelvin Goertzen

Kelvin Goertzen was elected as the MLA for Steinbach in 2003 and re-elected in 2007, 2011 and 2016. Prior to his appointment as Minister of Education & Training he served as the Minister of Health, Seniors & Active Living from 2016-2018. In addition to his responsibilities as Minister of Education & Training he is the Government House Leader & Chair of the Regulatory Accountability Committee of Cabinet. He serves as co-chair of the Midwestern Legislative Conference Midwest-Canada Relations Committee for The Council of State Governments, representing eleven Midwestern states and four Canadian provinces. Goertzen is a graduate of the Bowhay Institute for Legislative Leadership Development (BIILD), has degrees from the University of Manitoba in economics, commerce and law, and has worked for a major financial institution and property development company.
