The Canadian healthcare system is struggling with ever rising costs and increasing burden of disease. Canada has been shown to be lagging other countries on important health care outcomes. There is more and more pressure on healthcare organizations and the government to change.

Some observers are recommending new policies and approaches, others want to see the whole system overhauled. Support for privatization is growing. Some provinces have already started making reforms. But are these changes truly addressing the root-cause or only dealing with the symptoms?

Dr. Jack M. Mintz
World-Renowned Economist, Academic & Public Policy Analyst

Widely sought after by governments, businesses and non-profit organizations, Dr. Jack Mintz is one of Canada’s most distinguished and influential academics in public policy. As the President’s Fellow of the School of Public Policy at the University of Calgary he researches, builds capacity, and provides leadership specific to tax, financial regulatory and urban policy programs. He had previously served as the Palmer Chair and Director. Alberta Venture magazine has recognized him as one of the fifty most influential Albertans in 2008, 2010 and 2013, and the Financial Post named him one of the five most influential Canadians in regulation in 2012

Dr. Mintz became a member of the Order of Canada in 2015 as well as receiving the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012 for service to the Canadian tax policy community.

Dr. Harvey Schipper BASc (Eng.), MD, FRCP(C)
Professor of Medicine, and Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of Toronto.

Dr. Schipper is both an engineer and a physician who has combined disciplines to bring innovation to the health and life sciences sector from research bench, to the bedside and to public policy. His career has bridged five continents as cancer specialist, innovator, health systems designer, businessman and advisor to government, academe and the corporate sector. As a physician he was Professor of Medicine and Director of the Regional Cancer Care system in Manitoba, and established the WHO Collaborating Centre for Quality of Life Research in Cancer, which catalyzed patient-centered outcome research on a global basis.

He has helped design cancer programs around the world, and served as a Corporate Vice-President of MDS in a strategic portfolio.
