Featured Speaker: Barb Lawrie, Vice President Professional Practice and Chief Clinical Information Officer - Vancouver Coastal Health

As Vice President of Professional Practice and Chief Clinical Information Officer, Barb Lawrie oversees professional practice across Vancouver Coastal Health and provides leadership to clinicians to achieve the essential “clinical transformation” within our Clinical and Systems Transformation (CST) project. She is well known for her integrity as a leader and her ability to “dive into” complex issues in an effort to effect sensible change. Barb graduated as a registered nurse in Winnipeg in 1978, moved to Vancouver in 1979 and has spent most of her career at VCH. She has previously worked as Executive Director of Clinical Education and Collaborative Practice, as well as at Providence Health Care where she was Director of Professional Practice and Nursing. A registered nurse by profession and Adjunct Professor with the School of Nursing at the University of British Columbia, Barb’s health care career has taken her across a spectrum of clinical roles in different settings throughout the lower mainland. Along with time as a critical care nurse at BC Children’s Hospital and cardiac nurse at St. Paul’s Hospital, she broadened her clinical skills in a variety of roles at GF Strong Rehabilitation Centre before entering the corporate realm as the Regional Manager of Program Development and Learning & Career Development at VCH. Barb has received numerous professional accolades and honors, including the College of Registered Nurses of BC Award of Distinction in Nursing in 2010, and the Excellence in Spinal Cord Injury Clinical Performance Award from the American Association of Spinal Cord Injury Nurses. At the core of Barb’s practice is an unfailing commitment to quality patient care and excellence in nursing and allied practice.
