Southern Alberta Chapter's Annual General Meeting with featured speaker, Dr. Debrah Wirtzfeld will be held on Tuesday, September 22, 2020 at 5:00 PM Mountain Time via a virtual platform. CCHL members and non-members are welcome to attend but voting during the AGM will be restricted to active Southern Alberta Chapter members only.

Health care leaders must rise to the challenge of remaining vigilant in recognizing grief and supporting team members though this time As leaders who cannot know what will be on the other side of the pandemic, supporting the wellness of colleagues will be important to ensuring the sustainability of a functioning health care system.
At the conclusion of this session, participants will:
- have a greater appreciation of the ongoing responsibility of health care leaders to promote wellness of team members
- understand the types of grief which can arise and how to support an empathetic approach
- develop a more robust approach to supporting resilience in team members

Dr. Debrah Wirtzfeld, Associate CMO, Physician Health, Diversity and Wellness, Alberta Health Services
Dr. Debrah Wirtzfeld has practiced as a Surgical Oncologist for over 20 years. In 2019, she was recruited to Alberta as the Associate Chief Medical Officer of Physician Health, Diversity & Wellness, Alberta Health Services. Prior to joining Alberta Health Services, she worked with the Department of Surgery at the University of Manitoba for 11 years and was Provincial Lead for Surgical Oncology. She was appointed Regional Lead for General Surgery with University of Manitoba and Winnipeg Regional Health Authority (WRHA) in 2014. Debrah has served on the Boards of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, the Association of Women Surgeons and the Canadian Association of General Surgeons, the latter as President and Past-President. She has developed and facilitated many seminars, workshops, and retreats focused on physician leadership. She is a Canadian Certified Physician Executive (CCPE) and a certified Corporate Board Director (ICD.D). She completed an eMBA with a specialization in management consulting and marketing in July 2019.
Debrah has a passion for developing leadership potential in physicians, including communication skills and tools for allowing physicians to develop and lead high performing teams.
Maintenance of Certification
Attendance at this program entitles certified Canadian College of Health Leaders members (CHE / Fellow) to 1.0 Category I credits toward their maintenance of certification requirement.
