Partnership announcement: Canadian Health Information Management Association

OTTAWA, ONTARIO – The Canadian College of Health Leaders (the College) is pleased to announce that it signed an agreement this past fall with Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA) to support health leaders’ needs for professional development, leadership training and lifelong learning.

CHIMA represents Health Information Management (HIM®) professionals from across Canada and supports the continuing education and professional practice of HIM professionals.

Objectives of the partnership include adding value to each other’s membership base through jointly developing and offering professional development opportunities, increasing the awareness of the HIM profession and workforce transformation among hospital leaders and health care decision-makers, and promoting and increasing awareness of each other’s offerings to members.

“With the evolution to electronic health records, the ability to use data to improve quality of care will be greatly enhanced” said Ray Racette, CHE, College President and Chief Executive Officer. “HIM professionals will be instrumental in helping the health system realize this potential and our partnership with CHIMA speaks to this importance”.

“This partnership will be critical as CHIMA continues to raise the profile of the HIM profession, particularly among hospital leaders and health care decision-makers,” said Gail Crook, CHIM, CHE and Chief Executive Officer and Registrar of CHIMA.” As we more widely use electronic health records, collaborative relationships like the one we have with the College become integral to making the transition successful.”
