New partnership agreement serves as an avenue to promote excellence in the health leadership field
HALIFAX – December 2019, Dalhousie University’s Strategic Leadership in Health Certificate Program (SLHC) has entered into a strategic alliance with the Canadian College of Health Leaders (CCHL) to increase the leadership capabilities of health care managers in Canada.
Through this agreement, participants in the Strategic Leadership in Health Certificate Program will gain advanced standing towards obtaining their Certified Health Executive (CHE) designation, the only certification program for all Canadian health leaders. This program offers individual leaders several benefits including support for lifelong learning in health services leadership; assistance with career advancement; and peer recognition. The CHE also serves as an essential career designation.
“CCHL is thrilled to partner with Dalhousie University’s Strategic Leadership in Health Certificate Program to align the requirements of the Certified Health Executive (CHE) credential with the curriculum of the program. This is an exciting new type of partnership for us that will contribute to the expansion and development of health leaders in Nova Scotia and will connect them with health leaders across Canada, speaking the common leadership language of LEADS in a Caring Environment” said Brenda Lammi, Vice-President of Professional and Leadership development at CCHL.
For health care sector employers, the program gives leaders enhanced knowledge to support their organization’s operations and the ability to contribute to strategic growth. For employers, the CHE serves as an industry-wide benchmark when evaluating employee performance.

Since the launch of our Master of Public Administration (Management), we have seen many of our students come to us from the health care sector, working to advance their managerial capabilities, and it is excellent to be able to establish this relationship with CCHL so that our students may benefit from recognition of both sets of credentials!”
This collaboration allows both organizations to better address the constantly evolving needs of health leaders and align themselves with the LEADS in a Caring Environment framework. This framework is a foundation for Canadian health leadership development and defines the knowledge, skills and attitudes a leader must have to positively contribute to the Canadian health care system.

The Strategic Leadership in Health certificate program is available in two streams for experienced and emerging leaders. Custom designed in collaboration with sector experts for Canada’s uniquely complex healthcare environment, the program builds the skills and abilities of mid-career healthcare leaders who are seeking to move into senior positions in their organizations.
