A Message from our CEO: Looking ahead after 100 days

As the number of new cases continues to spike all over the world, it is comforting to realize how relatively well-off we are here in Canada. Our health leaders have responded with courage and determination and we are reminded daily to continue to do our part to keep flattening the curve. So in the midst of the ongoing spread of the pandemic globally, I want to start this message with a heartfelt and profound thank you to all of our health leaders, clinicians, doctors, nurses and all those who take care of our families and loved ones in one way or the other. We appreciate everything you do to keep us safe and keep us healthy.

At the College, we have been working actively over the last 100 days to adapt to this new reality and respond to the needs of our members for real-time and in-context resources and services. Our webinars continue to be well-attended and appreciated, our new member signups have continued at the same pace as last year and CHE registrations are quite healthy. We are grateful and encouraged that the College has maintained its relevance and that leaders around the country are seeing the value in membership.

Of course, we have had to reschedule, postpone or virtualize much of our normal activities. Our board of directors’ meetings are all now fully virtual through to the end of the year. Having received the required approvals for the rescheduling of the annual general meeting, members will soon receive formal notice that the AGM is now scheduled to be held in virtual mode on September 16, 2020. You will receive the usual notice and related documents in mid-August.

Likewise, we are in the final stages of designing a virtual experience for our annual BC Health Leaders Conference to be held in the fall and details on that new format will be available shortly.

We do hope to get back to face-to-face events at some point, but in the meantime, we are building capacity to hold virtual events. For example, we've rolled out our first HPRS roundtable session virtually and the Awards Gala will be a virtual celebration that will be broadcast right after the annual general meeting on September 16.

We remain focused on four priorities:
  1. Staff wellness and team culture;
  2. Member value and leadership support in a pandemic context;
  3. Financial sustainability; and
  4. Readiness for post-pandemic recovery with new value propositions and models.

The staff of CCHL's national office continues to work from home and are all connected and available to support our members. We will continue to do our best to respond to member enquiries and deliver our services without interruptions, and we thank you for your patience during this time. New relevant content and resources are consistently being made available on our website, including “Leadership in a Crisis” research and materials, as well as Healthcare Management Forum articles, blogs and podcasts.
