This webinar will provide an overview of 'DischargeHUB'. DischargeHUB is an acute care solution, developed in Newfoundland and Labrador, bringing Canadian innovation to hospitals and health facilities across the country. DischargeHUB is a professional managed service, optimizing patient transitions from hospital to home, leveraging technology automations and flexible software solutions that focus on making the most of existing information infrastructure and vendor partners.

Sheena Fiander, Director of Operations, DischargeHUB

Sheena Fiander is a dynamic healthcare leader currently serving as Director of Operations at DischargeHUB and Health Innovation Advisor at Branch Innovations. With over 11 years of experience in health innovation and project management, Sheena has led transformative initiatives that improve operational efficiency and elevate patient care across the healthcare continuum.

In her role at DischargeHUB, Sheena applies strategic insight and operational expertise to enhance discharge planning, streamline transitions, and strengthen communication between care providers. At Branch Innovations, she advises on emerging health technologies and innovation strategies, helping shape solutions that address complex system challenges.

Sheena holds a Value-Based Health Care Professional Certification through ICHOM, further deepening her commitment to outcome-driven care. She is also completing a Master of Technology Management at Memorial University and holds a Bachelor of Human Resources and Labour Relations from Athabasca University, along with a Diploma in Business Administration from the College of the North Atlantic.

Her credentials include specialized certifications in public sector leadership, digital marketing, conflict management, client relations, and disaster response. Passionate about global collaboration, Sheena brings a forward-thinking approach to healthcare innovation and is proud to contribute to the mission of the Canadian College of Health Leaders.


Ed Spurrell, Solution and Impact Manager

Ed is a Solution Manager with the DischargeHUB team, focusing on the growth and expansion of the solution into new sites. In this role, he serves as the primary point of contact for clients, ensuring their needs are met and maximizing the value of the DischargeHUB platform. Ed is committed to continuous improvement, implementing best practices, and leveraging digital automations to help streamline operations. Ed holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Memorial University of Newfoundland and recently completed a diploma in Software Development from Keyin College. This combination of business acumen and technical expertise drives innovative solutions and streamlines operations. Known for his exceptional communication, leadership, and problem-solving abilities, Ed is dedicated to driving innovation and delivering high-quality service.


Ayon Shahed, Executive Advisor

Ayon is a strategic leader with over 15 years of experience spanning the realms of health, technology, social enterprise, housing, and public policy. With extensive business development, strategic planning and facilitation experience, Ayon brings a critical focus to ensuring strong communication and inclusive spaces that embrace divergent and convergent thinking. As President of Branch Innovations & VP of Innovation and Business Development at Seafair Capital, he spearheads transformative initiatives grounded in a deep focus on impact for community wellbeing, the healthcare system, and on entrepreneurial success. A skilled collaborator, Ayon forges strategic partnerships across government, private, non-profit sectors, navigating complex systems to drive ambitious, people-centred solutions. Prior his work with Seafair Capital, Ayon held influential leadership roles at Choices for Youth and Engineers Without Borders Canada. Ayon’s leadership extends to his active involvement in various boards and committees, including previous governance positions with the Canadian Housing and Renewal Association, the St. John's Tool Library, the City of St. John's Affordable Housing Committee, and the Catherine Donnelly Foundation. He is currently serving on the board of MusicNL and techNL, supporting DEIB initiatives in Newfoundland and Labrador’s technology ecosystem. In 2021, Ayon completed the Strategic Innovation Programme at the Oxford University Saïd Business School. In 2019, he received an Engineering Excellence Award from Queen’s University; and in 2015 he was named one of Atlantic Canada’s Top 50 Under 40.
