Theme: If You Had Your Way: Which Leadership Development Priorities Matter Most Now?
Healthcare systems across Canada are currently facing significant uncertainty. Regional and organizational restructuring has led to widespread job insecurity for leaders and their teams, and austerity measures in response to intense economic pressures have directly impacted on professional development budgets.
The pressures association with these and other contextual factors are forcing HR, organizational development (OD), and learning and professional development (L/PD) specialists to be intentional about how they respond to the question:
If you had your way, what leadership development would matter most right now?
Which leaders should be prioritized for development? What capabilities are most critical at different leadership levels—from frontline leaders and managers to directors and executives? Which development approaches are most feasible and effective in an era of financial constraints?
Clearly, the stakes dictate that creative, evidence-based approaches are best.
HR/OD/L/PD professionals are uniquely positioned to identify emerging priorities, share practical insights, and help shape leadership development strategies across the healthcare sector and beyond.
All HR/OD/LPD specialists are invited to join Dr. Jaason Geerts, Vice-President of Research and Leadership Development at the College, to engage with their colleagues across Canada and beyond in an exclusive national Think Tank entitled, “If You Had Your Way: Which Leadership Development Priorities Matter Most Now?”.
The session involves a brief pre-session survey, as well as:
Part 1:
12:00 – 12:20: a presentation by Dr. Geerts on current trends, research findings, and thought leadership related to leadership development and integration
12:20 – 12:40: small-group discussions regarding priorities for leader development and effective strategies
12:40 – 12:55: full-group debrief of the small-group discussions.
12:55 – 1:00: information and next steps.
**Optional (but included in registration)
Part 2:
1:00 – 1:30: small-group discussions and a full-group debrief on Talent Optimization and leadership integration system-wide.
The session takes place on Thursday, April 23rd from 12:00 – 1:00 (ET) for Part 1, with Part 2 extending until 1:30 p.m.
Insights from the Think Tank will contribute to ongoing analysis of leadership development priorities across the healthcare sector.
