Leadership, leadership development, and talent are changing quickly. Healthcare organizations are entering 2027 amid sustained workforce pressures, constrained development budgets, rapid technological change, rising expectations for inclusion, and the release of the Refreshed LEADS Framework.
For HR, organizational development (OD), and learning/professional development (L/PD) specialists, the practical question is not whether change is ahead, but which changes matter enough to reshape priorities, programs, and talent decisions.
Which leaders should be prioritized? Which capabilities will matter most at different levels? How should organizations use the Refreshed LEADS Framework across development,
succession, performance, and talent practices? Which emerging approaches are evidence-based, feasible, and worth scaling—and which familiar practices should be reconsidered?
HR/OD/L/PD professionals are uniquely positioned to interpret these changes, share practical insights, and shape the systems organizations will need next.
All HR/OD/L/PD specialists are invited to join Dr. Jaason Geerts, Vice-President of Research and Leadership Development and Fellow of the College, to engage with colleagues across Canada and beyond in an exclusive national Think Tank entitled, “Leadership, Development and Talent in 2027: What Changes Are Ahead?”
The session will draw on the Refreshed LEADS Framework, current evidence, Dr. Geerts’ ongoing research and thought leadership, and a brief anonymous pre-session survey. The emphasis will be on practical implications for evidence-based leadership development, Talent Optimization, and the Leadership Infrastructure and Development System (LIDS).
The session involves a brief pre-session survey, as well as:
Part 1:
12:00 - 12:20: a presentation by Dr. Geerts on the changes ahead for leadership, leadership development, and talent, informed by the Refreshed LEADS Framework and his ongoing research and thought leadership
12:20 - 12:40: small-group discussions regarding expected changes, priority groups and capabilities, and practices to start, stop, or scale
12:40 - 12:55: full-group debrief of the small-group discussions
12:55 - 1:00: information and next steps
Optional (but included in registration)
Part 2:
1:00 - 1:30: small-group discussions and a full-group debrief on building integrated leadership, development, and talent systems, including Talent Optimization and LIDS
The session takes place on Thursday, November 26th from 12:00 - 1:00 p.m. ET for Part 1, with optional Part 2 extending to 1:30 p.m.
Insights from the Think Tank will contribute to ongoing analysis of leadership development priorities across the healthcare sector.
