The new St Paul’s Hospital has been under construction for over 4 years. From the initial requirements that are drafted years before the project breaks ground, to design development with the design-build partner and finally to planning workflows with clinical and operational staff there are countless decisions that needs to be made along the way to manage the project scope, and especially the schedule. A clear decision management process is required to bring the right people onboard, creating comfort and trust in the process. Taylor and Tanya will share some insights and lessons learned on decision-making through the project phases of NSPH.

Featured Speakers:

Tanya Campbell

Director, Transition Team, New St. Paul’s Hospital

Tanya has 25 years of diverse experience in the healthcare sector, showcasing her adaptability and commitment to patient care. She began her career as a medical-surgical nurse, where she honed her clinical skills and developed a deep understanding of patient needs. Her passion for critical care propelled her to the emergency department, where she thrived in a fast-paced environment that demanded quick decision-making and exceptional teamwork. Tanya's expertise extended beyond patient care as she took on the clinical educator role, sharing her knowledge and mentoring new nurses within the hospital setting. Her dedication to enhancing healthcare education led her to serve as an emergency educator at the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT), where she shaped the next generation of healthcare professionals.

In 2020, Tanya became a clinical informatics specialist, a role in which she integrated technology with clinical practice to optimize patient outcomes. That same year, she joined the New St. Paul's Hospital Redevelopment project, where she now serves as the Director of the Transition Team. Tanya plays a crucial role in envisioning and designing innovative spaces and care models that will redefine the patient experience at the new facility. Tanya remains grounded and connected to frontline realities by working casually in the Emergency Department at St. Paul's. This choice reflects her unwavering commitment to compassionate, patient-centred care and ensures that she stays attuned to the challenges faced by healthcare professionals on the ground.

Taylor Harrison

Director, Design & Construction,  New St. Paul’s Hospital

Taylor spent 10 years in the private sector delivering infrastructure projects with an architecture & engineering consulting firm. Her project management path led her into large, complex alternate project delivery work, and once she got involved in healthcare projects, she was hooked. Leveraging the work of the technical experts designing healthcare facilities with the input of healthcare staff to deliver something so important for communities and cities is uniquely rewarding work.  Focused on healthcare, she joined Providence Health Care in 2018 to manage the Design-Build contract for the New St Paul’s Hospital.  Taylor’s time on the project has spanned the development of the specifications, establishing the project team and consultants, procuring the Design-Builder and executing the design and construction phases. Taylor also works closely with Tanya as part of the Transition Leadership team to prepare the organization internally to get ready to work in the new hospital.
