Lieutenant-Commander J.R. Young brings over three decades of distinguished service in the Canadian Armed Forces and Naval Reserve. Beginning his career as a Direct Entry Nursing Officer in 1990, he held key leadership roles including Commanding Officer of 1 Field Ambulance and Commander of 4 Health Services Group, overseeing health services across Ontario, Quebec, and the Maritimes. His expertise spans operational planning, health services delivery, and international deployments, including serving as Health Services Planner at SFOR Headquarters in Sarajevo.
Since transitioning to the Naval Reserve in 2016, LCdr Young has contributed as Head of Intelligence and served in multiple divisional and departmental roles. He is currently Acting Director of National Nursing Services with Veterans Affairs Canada. Academically, he holds a BSc in Nursing, a Master in Defence Studies, and numerous advanced military and clinical certifications. His leadership philosophy emphasizes optimism, collaboration, and inspiring teams to achieve strategic goals.
