Join us for an insightful webinar: Leading Healthcare Services During a Humanitarian Crisis.
Thirteen years after the devastating 2010 Haiti earthquake, we examine the critical leadership lessons gathered from the Canadian Armed Forces' Operation HESTIA. This 50-minute session explores the complexities of deploying the Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART) and managing a field hospital under extreme pressure. Gain firsthand perspectives on coordinating logistics, surgical prioritization, and maintaining medical standards in austere environments. Perfect for healthcare leaders and emergency responders looking to enhance their crisis management toolkit.
Featured Speaker:

Major Stephanie Smith, MD, CCFP-EM, BN
A Regular Force Emergency Medicine Physician and Disaster and Emergency Response Lead at Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital in Fredericton, Maj Smith’s career began in the CAF as a critical care nurse, and then she volunteered twice in Haiti following the 2010 earthquake, providing frontline trauma and critical care at Project Medishare at Bernard Mevs Hospital in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
Working in an austere, resource-constrained environment profoundly shaped her understanding of disaster response, cultural considerations, team dynamics, sanitation challenges and resource limitations.
Then she completed a Master’s in Disaster and Emergency Management, where her research focused on the lived experiences of deployed medical technicians and nurses during the Haiti mission.
Today, she integrates frontline humanitarian experience, clinical leadership, and academic research to strengthen disaster preparedness, operational readiness, and interprofessional collaboration in complex emergency environments
Register today to bridge the gap between military precision and humanitarian care.
