Our featured speaker is Janet Davidson, renowned Canadian healthcare leader and consultant. It is a rare opportunity hear from an outstanding senior leader that brings a vast amount of experience, unique insights, and pragmatic recommendations that you can use to stay inspired and lead into a new era.

Featured speaker: 

Janet M. Davidson, O.C., BScN, MHSA, LLD (Hon)  works in health care consulting with a focus on strategy, organization management and design, and governance. She was recently elected as Board Chair of the Waterloo Regional Health Network. Prior to that she served as Administrator of the Nova Scotia Health Authority and and prior to that, as Deputy Minister of Health for Alberta.
Janet has over 40 years of experience in healthcare in the government, voluntary and hospital/community sectors in a number of Canadian jurisdictions and internationally. She currently sits on the boards of Bayshore Healthcare and Workforce Edge. She recently completed terms on the Boards of SickKids and Health Workforce Canada.

She is past Chair of the Canadian Institute for Health Information and co-chair of the CD Howe’s Health Policy Council. Janet received a Bachelor of Nursing Science from the University of Windsor and a Master’s in Health Services Administration from the University of Alberta. She is a graduate of the Institute of Corporate Directors’ Education program at Rotman, the UC Berkeley School of Public Health’s Global Health Leadership program and has an Honorary Doctor of Laws Degree from the University of Windsor. She is an Officer of the Order of Canada.

James Chan is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the School of Nursing at Queen’s University and a Lecturer in the Health Quality Programs, where he teaches at the graduate level. His work focuses on quality improvement, health system performance, measurement, and evaluation, with an emphasis on applying evidence-informed approaches to complex health and community systems.
Dr. Chan holds a PhD in Health Sciences from the University of Northern British Columbia, with a focus on health system measurement and evaluation. He also holds a Master of Arts in Counselling and Educational Psychology from the University of British Columbia and a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from Simon Fraser University. He is a Lean Black Belt and a Fellow of the Canadian College of Health Leaders. His scholarly contributions include peer-reviewed publications and national and international conference presentations in the areas of quality improvement and implementation science.

In addition to his work at Queen’s, he has held academic teaching roles at McMaster University, supporting the development of graduate and professional learners in health system improvement. Dr. Chan brings extensive applied experience as a mental health clinician and senior leader across large regional health authorities and acute care settings. He has held progressive leadership roles across complex, multi-site systems, with responsibility for quality, risk, accreditation, and clinical program networks, as well as oversight of data analytics, research, and medical affairs. His work focuses on advancing system performance through quality improvement, leading large-scale evaluations and accreditation processes, and implementing evidence-informed initiatives that improve patient outcomes and operational effectiveness.
