Join us virtually for a CEO fireside chat with Kim Simmonds, Chief Executive Officer of Primary Care Alberta and the inaugural leader of one of the most significant structural shifts in Alberta’s health system. The conversation will be moderated by our CEO Fireside Chat Host, Tyler Tamayose, healthcare transformation leader and trusted system advisor across Alberta’s health ecosystem.
Primary care is being repositioned as the foundation of the system. With the creation of Primary Care Alberta, leadership is no longer just about improvement within existing structures. It is about building new ones. Alberta is at a defining point. Expectations are high. Access pressures are real. Public trust is critical. The mandate is clear: strengthen continuity, improve integration, and ensure every Albertan has a connected relationship with a primary care provider and team. This fireside chat moves beyond organizational announcements and into the leadership realities of standing up a new provincial agency. Together, the conversation will explore what it takes to translate evidence into execution, how to lead amid scrutiny and system fatigue, and how foundational reform reshapes accountability across the entire health ecosystem.
Kim Simmonds brings a rare perspective and leadership style shaped by epidemiology, government strategy, consulting, and system planning. Her leadership sits at the intersection of data, policy, and delivery at a moment when alignment across sectors has never mattered more. This session is for leaders who understand that primary care is not a silo. It is the front door, the stabilizer, and the anchor of system sustainability. Whether you lead within primary care or across the broader system, you will leave with deeper insight into what leadership demands when the foundation itself is being redesigned.
Featured Speaker:

Kim Simmonds, CEO, Primary Care Alberta
Kim Simmonds assumed the role of Chief Executive Officer of Primary Care Alberta in November 2024, becoming the inaugural leader of Alberta’s newly established provincial primary care agency. Created to strengthen and coordinate primary and long term care services across the province, Primary Care Alberta represents a foundational shift in how the health system is organized and delivered.
An epidemiologist by training, Kim Simmonds brings a rare blend of academic rigor, public sector leadership, and private sector strategy experience. She previously served as Assistant Deputy Minister of Health and held senior leadership roles focused on health system planning, performance, quality, evidence, and clinical innovation within the Government of Alberta. Earlier in her career, she worked as an epidemiologist with Alberta Health Services and as a senior leader with EY, advising on complex system transformation initiatives. Kim Simmonds holds a PhD and MSc in Epidemiology from the University of Calgary. Her leadership reflects a deep commitment to data informed decision making, system integration, and sustainable reform.
As CEO of Primary Care Alberta, her focus is clear: every Albertan should have an ongoing, connected, and trusting relationship with a primary care provider. She has articulated a vision of “health homes” where individuals are known, where care is coordinated, and where patients do not have to retell their story at every encounter. Beyond her executive role, Kim Simmonds served as a board director with E4C, a nonprofit organization dedicated to alleviating poverty in Edmonton. At a time when primary care sits at the center of system redesign, Kim Simmonds is leading one of the most consequential transformations in Alberta’s health landscape.
