Leadership Under Pressure: A Psychiatrist’s Perspective
Health leaders are expected to bring clarity and stability in complex, high pressure environments. Few conversations focus on what that pressure does to leaders themselves. In this compelling session, Dr. Kaitlin Chivers-Wilson offers a rare inside look at the science of leadership under sustained stress. Drawing on her work as a trauma psychiatrist and medical director within Alberta’s health system, Dr. Chivers-Wilson explores how chronic organizational stress shapes decision making, communication, and behaviour.
She introduces the concepts of moral injury and sanctuary trauma and highlights the unique role leaders can play in interrupting these cycles. Grounded in neuroscience and lived experience, this session invites leaders to reflect on how their internal state influences the environments they lead. Attendees will gain practical insights to lead with greater awareness, resilience, and sustainability.
