Reporting to the Vice President, Quality and Research and Chief Nursing & Allied Health Officer, with accountabilities to the Vice President, Medicine, Quality and Chief Medical Officer, the Executive Director, Nurse Practitioners (ED, NP) provides senior leadership and direction to the Nurse Practitioner (NP) portfolio that integrates both practice and operational responsibilities including Professional Practice standards and accountabilities, evolving models of care, clinical practice and education models, quality care, and the Health Human Resources workforce strategy. The Executive Director leads Nurse Practitioner strategic planning, including ongoing role and practice development, implementation and sustainability of the roles, and quality oversite to NP practice across Island Health. This Executive Director leads the integration of clinical information with care environment requirements for practice, education and research by developing solutions and conceptual models of patient care in a complex inter-professional environment. They will also provide senior leadership in developing professional practice standards of care consistent with the values of the organization, clinical professional development standards, and representative of patient and family centred care.

The ideal candidate possesses a background of effectively navigating the challenges related to implementing and comprehending the role of nurse practitioners as independent practitioners. The candidate has the ability to influence the medical leadership team and contribute to the visioning and broader input into the organizational clinical landscape. They are forward-thinking, examining the future vision of nurse practitioners and exploring innovative ways to address workforce challenges. Strong leadership, political acumen, and the ability to influence others are crucial for success in this role, as is the capacity to challenge the status quo and push boundaries to drive significant change. The ideal candidate is also open to and capable of transforming perspectives, using critical thinking to assess and mitigate risks, and embracing new approaches to enhance the role of nurse practitioners within the healthcare system. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in building a provincial context that fosters positive change in the healthcare landscape.

The successful candidate will ideally hold or be willing to obtain a Doctoral (DNP/PhD) degree in Nursing. Additionally, registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) as a Nurse Practitioner is required, or the candidate should demonstrate a strong willingness to obtain this registration.

The targeted salary range for this position is $160,846.40 – $194,000, supplemented by a competitive total rewards package.
