THE ORGANIZATION

The Oshawa Clinic Group is Canada’s largest and leading medical clinic serving the Oshawa and surrounding communities since 1927. This organization has grown and developed in response to the clinical care and service needs of the population in this region approaching over 100 years. Within three locations (Courtice, Oshawa, Taunton) care and services include cardiac assessment, diagnostic imaging, fertility, footcare, laboratory, ophthalmology, pain, pharmacy, physiotherapy, surgery, urgent care, and urology, by teams of expert physicians and healthcare professionals. Plans are underway to move the downtown Oshawa location into a new 154,000 square feet facility in Whitby in 2024, expected to be Canada’s largest private multidisciplinary medical group practice.

The Oshawa Clinic opened in Oshawa in 1948 serving a population of 25,000 at the corner of King and Charles Streets. In response to the rapidly increasing population, the Clinic continued to add medical and administrative staff, and developed improved facilities for laboratory, diagnostic imaging, physiotherapy, and pharmacy. In 1962, a 30,000 square foot wing was added, in 1971, an eight-storey tower was added and in 1987, a three-storey west wing was added. Much of the population growth in the Durham Region was east of Oshawa in the Courtice area, so another medical facility, the Courtice Health Centre, opened in 1999. The Courtice Center is home to two dozen family physicians, diagnostic imaging and laboratory services, dental centre, hearing testing, rehab services and several programs operated by Lakeridge Health Corporation. With the success of the Courtice Health Centre, another facility was established close to the University of Ontario Institute of Technology.

The Taunton Health Centre opened in 2006 and is home more than a dozen family doctors, a urology centre, walk-in clinic, and diagnostic and treatment services. In 2013 the Taunton Surgical Center a 36,000 state-of-the-art facility opened, which is now home to more than a dozen surgeons and physiatrists. The Pain Management Clinic on the ground floor provides a comprehensive pain management program for chronic pain patients.

In response to the growth of the community, The Oshawa Clinic Group has continued to expand its facilities and programs, and now includes more than 150 physicians and 350 staff to serve the clinical care needs of more than 700,000 people in this region and beyond.
