CCHL contributes to World Health Organization meeting on COVID-19 pandemic recovery

August 13, 2021

CCHL’s Jaason Geerts, Director, Research and Leadership Development, was invited to participate in a July 29, 2021 meeting organised by the World Health Organization to discuss the “Toolkit for health systems recovery from COVID-19 pandemic”.

The meeting was hosted by the World Health Organization, Eastern Mediterranean Region (WHO EMRO) and served as a consultation on a WHO toolkit that is being developed for health systems recovery.

Jaason was invited as an expert advisor based on the recently published JAMA Network Open article ( Guidance for Health Care Leaders During the Recovery Stage of the COVID-19 Pandemic: A Consensus Statement) where he led a diverse team of 32 co-authors from 17 countries to create an evidence- and expertise-informed framework for leadership during the pandemic.

Meeting attendees included WHO employees, senior government officials, representatives from the United Nations, UNICEF, the World Bank, as well as other expert advisors. The ultimate purpose was to gather feedback on the toolkit before it is finalized and disseminated world-wide. Jaason will continue to be involved with this initiative in a consultative capacity until the framework is finalized.
