The Guest Editor for this edition is Shaik Mohiuddin, BDS, MFDS, FACHE, CHE, who serves as the Chief Quality Officer at Al Dhafra Hospitals, part of the SEHA-PureHealth group in Abu Dhabi. Dr. Mohiuddin possesses a Bachelor of Dental Surgery and has completed diplomas in quality management and practice management from reputable institutions in Australia and Canada. He also holds a Master of Healthcare Administration from the University of Regina, Saskatchewan. Additionally, Dr. Mohiuddin is a Fellow of the American Academy of Healthcare Executives, a Certified Health Executive, and a member of the HMF Editorial Board.

Read the blog by Susan Biesbroek, MSc, a Human Factors Safety Specialist with Alberta Health Services, as she discusses how to incorporate human factors methods into the configuration and implementation of an electronic health record system. In her experience, these methods were critical in identifying early usability issues and optimizing the system to ensure safety, efficiency, and alignment with clinical workflows. This blog builds on her article in the January 2026 edition of HMF in which she also outlines the costs and timelines for her project that included a 7-year rollout, engagement with 400 clinical end users, and 30 usability evaluations.

Read the article by Jonas Shultz, MSC, EDAC, CRP, as he and his co-authors discuss the growing trend to conduct simulation-based mock-up evaluations as part of the process to design healthcare facilities. They also outline the Health Quality Alberta framework to provide guidance for organizations wanting to integrate this evaluation methodology into their healthcare facility design process. Jonas is a Human Factors Consultant in Calgary, Alberta, who has influenced provincial and national healthcare facility design standards.

Health Human Resources: Health leaders have always been under pressure to allocate human resources in a way that maximizes benefit to patients and populations. With the continued presence of COVID-19, they have a unique opportunity to make choices that help the health system to recover, all while protecting lives and reducing the economic impact on future generations. While there is no historical pattern of resource allocation, there is tremendous past experience that can be shared to address challenges in dealing with such crises. These articles offer the lessons learned that we can apply into the future.
