WEBINAR

Joanna Hikaka, PhD, BPharm, PG DipClin Pharm

Join us on date March 25 from 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm EDT, for a webinar with Joanna Hikaka, PhD, BPharm, PG DipClin Pharm, a Senior Lecturer at the Department of MaoriHealth, and Co-Director of the Centre for Co-Created Ageing Research at the University of Auckland. Hikaka and her co-authors build in their article which outlines an initiative in Aotearoa New Zealand designed to address the unmet needs of and care inequalities for older Maori, the Indigenous people in Australia. Their work centres around those who require access to public aged care services and involves Maori health navigators. This study is important because it is an example of a successful and scalable non-regulated Indigenous health workforce, who provide culturally appropriate, connected healthcare using an internationally validated assessment.

BLOG

Amanda Mofina, PhD, MSc, BSc (Hons), MScOT

Read the blog by Amanda Mofina, PhD, MSc, BSc (Hons), MScOT, an academic and researcher specializing in rehabilitation science and occupational therapy at the University of Waterloo. Mofina builds on her article which outlines her experience with interRAI and how health leaders can benefit from capturing, in a standardized way, information that can inform care planning, care quality, risk of rehospitalization, funding, and resource utilization. Leaders are responsible for caring for populations that include persons with complex health needs, older adults, and persons with disabilities. All have diverse health characteristics that span health dimensions (i.e., physical, cognitive, psycho-emotional, and social) and provide information beyond diagnoses. It is important that evidence-based information about the severity and intensity of their needs is used to improve individual health outcomes across this continuum of care settings and services
