BC Lower Mainland Chapter – Ethics beyond the bedside: Navigating systems-level ethical issues in health care settings

This session was presented on February 18, 2026

This talk explores organizational ethics in health care and highlights approaches that can help leaders navigate ethical dilemmas that can arise at the systems level—including ethical issues around resource allocation.

Participants will be invited to critically think about the balance between health systems and individual patients needs, looking at principles that address responsibilities to communities, populations, and the broader society.

Featured Speakers:

Jennifer A, Gibson (she/her), RN, MSN, PhD is currently the Executive Director of Professional Practice and Quality Practice Environments and Director of Ethics Services at Providence Health Care.

Jennifer earned an MSN and a PhD from the University of British Columbia School of Nursing.  An RN and clinical ethicist by training, she also holds an appointment of Adjunct Professor in the School of Nursing at the University of British Columbia.

Jenn frequently shares her expertise on Health Care Ethics and the benefits of social-relational models in Seniors’ and dementia care. Her insights have been featured at numerous local and national conferences and educational events, as well as in a variety of peer-reviewed publications.
