Isobel Mackenzie – BC’s Seniors Advocate

Isobel Mackenzie was recently appointed as BC's Seniors Advocate, the first in Canada. The Office of the Seniors Advocate, with an annual budget of $2 million, will monitor seniors' services, promote awareness and work collaboratively with seniors, families, policy makers, service providers and others to identify solutions to systemic issues and make recommendations on ways to improve care for BC's aging population.  The Seniors Advocate will address fundamental problems in healthcare, housing, income assistance and more.  Mackenzie will not respond to individual concerns from seniors, but look at whether their complaints are system-wide

Ms. Mackenzie was most recently the Executive Director/CEO of Beacon Community Services in Victoria, and brings with her 18 years of experience working on behalf of seniors at the local, provincial and national levels
