The Vancouver Island Chapter invites its members to our inaugural journal club event. We are kicking off a series of journal club sessions, where we will bring together CCHL members, all of whom are at varying stages in their careers, to discuss thought provoking articles on leadership.  For each session, we will distribute an article to registered participants beforehand and gather in an informal yet engaging setting to provide an opportunity for networking followed by a thoughtful discussion on the chosen article.

For our first journal club topic, we will be discussing Cass R. Sunstein and Reid Hastie’s “Making Dumb Groups Smarter” from Harvard Business Review. The article will discuss how “[a]ll too often, groups fail to achieve the storied wisdom of crowds. In recent years, behavioral research has begun to identify precisely where they go wrong. But so far this academic work has yet to have a noticeable effect on actual practice. The authors outline reasons and interrelated problems for group failure. The article also offers some simple suggestions for improvement: Silence the leader, “prime” critical thinking, reward group success, assign roles, appoint a devil’s advocate, establish contrarian teams, and use the Delphi method.”

This Members only event is free; however please register early as space is limited.
It is expected that each participant will purchase their own food/drink at the meeting location.

Attendance at this program entitles certified Canadian College of Health Leaders members (CHE / Fellow) to 1.50 Category I  credits toward their maintenance of certification requirement.
