Guest Speaker: Isobel Mackenzie, Seniors Advocate for British Columbia

After 20 years of health care leadership, Isobel Mackenzie was appointed Canada’s first Seniors Advocate by the British Columbia government in March 2014.  In a busy first year as Advocate, Isobel has travelled the province widely and consulted with a large number of seniors, their families and professionals as well as conducting significant research into a range of issues facing seniors today.  In this talk, Isobel will review her learnings and assessment of the key challenges facing British Columbia seniors and in particular how a culture shift is required on the part of professionals and families of seniors that increases risk tolerance and is more supportive of seniors to live independently.
