Manitoba Chapter Annual General Meeting and Education Session Social Media: Tips, Tricks and Pitfalls
September 28, 2015 12:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Central Time Canad Inns Destination Centre Health Sciences Centre 720 William Avenue, Winnipeg, MB
Guest Speaker: David Hultin, Communications Specialist at Health Science Centre Winnipeg
Originally from the “Hub of the North” (Thompson) and an avid media consumer all his life, David Hultin cut his teeth at the University of Manitoba Students’ Union handling internal communications for both the Fort Garry and Bannatyne campuses as well as the undergraduate and graduate student populations. He further honed his skills working with the Winnipeg Goldeyes Baseball Club in communications and marketing, and then promotions for Winnipeg’s Bell Media radio stations.
David joined Health Sciences Centre Winnipeg after a four-year stint as CancerCare Manitoba’s communications and public affairs coordinator. While at the provincial cancer agency, he led a successful rebranding exercise including a new identity for the three screening programs (ColonCheck, CervixCheck, BreastCheck), facilitated media requests, coordinated events (including co-chairing CCMB’s United Way campaign) and launched CCMB’s YouTube and social media channels.
Part of the HSC Winnipeg communications team since 2014, David works with the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority and the Health Sciences Centre Foundation and Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba on media requests, HSC’s social media presence, and capital project communications.
In addition to a Creative Communications diploma, David holds a Master’s degree in Native Studies, a Master’s Certificate in Project Management, a Certificate in Higher Education Teaching, and is accredited by the Canadian Public Relations Society (CPRS).
David is active in his community first serving as a treasurer of the Winnipeg Public Library Board, and now as the treasurer of the local CPRS chapter. Depending on the season, he can also be found on the field with a baseball glove or on a sheet of ice with a curling broom when he isn’t chasing his offspring.
