This webinar will present the challenges of managing patients with diseases/illnesses such as Delirium, Dementia, Traumatic Brain Injuries, etc in an acute care environment. It will examine and present options to control the disease/illness and behaviour while minimizing the use of constant care, improving quality care to patients, decreasing length of stay, and ensuring patients are discharged to the most appropriate setting.

Melvin Layden is the Division Manager for 5SB Urology and 5SB Neurosurgery at the Health Science Centre at Eastern Health Newfoundland and Labrador. This is a management position that he has held for the last 2.5 years. Prior to this position he was a Resident Care Manager at the Hoyles-Escasoni Complex with Eastern Health. He graduated with a Bachelor of Nursing from Memorial University of Newfoundland in 2004 and graduated with a Masters of Nursing from Athabasca University in 2009.

Attendance at this program entitles certified Canadian College of Health Leaders members (CHE / Fellow) to 1 Category I  credits toward their maintenance of certification requirement.
