Come join us for the Northern Alberta Chapter Professional Development Event with keynote speaker, Colonel Marc Bilodeau, MD.

Keynote Speaker: Colonel Marc Bilodeau, MD

Since the publication of the U.S. Institute of Medicine report: “To Err is Human: Building a Safer Health System” in 1999, the push for patient safety has been ongoing in occidental health care systems.   Several health care organizations from around the world have engaged in the business of providing safer care using a quality improvement approach.  Over the last 15 years, the Canadian Military has implemented and refined a Patient Safety Program.  The intent of this talk is to share with other health care leaders, lessons learned from the military Patient Safety Program implementation.  It will also highlight the importance of the leadership in sustainment of patient safety initiatives towards better care.

Colonel Marc Bilodeau, MD

Colonel Bilodeau is the Commander of 1 Health Services Group for the Canadian Armed Forces in Edmonton since June 2016. He previously assumed the role of Director of Medical Policy for the Canadian Armed Forces in Ottawa.  This followed his appointment as Commanding Officer of the Canadian Forces Health Services Centre Ottawa and the Senior Medical Authority for the National Capital Region and Europe.  Previously, he was in charge of the primary care services for the Canadian Armed Forces.  His mandate was to standardize the health care delivery in the 40 military medical clinics in Canada and oversees.  He has been a military physician since 2000.  He also worked actively as an emergency room physician from 2000 to 2011.  Dr Bilodeau obtained his family medicine certification in 2000 and his emergency medicine certification in 2003.  He is a certified Flight Surgeon and has a basic diving medicine qualification.  In 2014, he was awarded the Canadian Certified Physician Executive (CCPE) title.
