Join us for the Southern Alberta Chapter’s year-end event and social.  It will feature two perspectives from community leaders on parts of the 2015 Alberta Mental Health Review and dinner.  The speakers and dinner will be preceded by a brief Annual General Meeting.

“One in five Albertans experience an addiction or a mental illness, sometimes both, and the impact can be devastating. This can take a toll not only on the individual, but also on the broader community – family, friends, and colleagues at work and at school.  While we have come a long way from the days of institutionalizing the mentally ill, our attempts to address these issues over the past 20 to 30 years have fallen short. Over the years, many reports and recommendations have come and gone. There have been many talented professionals and caregivers, and a range of programs and partnerships that held real promise. Yet gaps remain in our system, and Albertans often encounter a system that is overwhelmed, fragmented, and reacting mostly to those in crisis” (Valuing Mental Health Report, 2015).

Consider that our mental health and mindset shapes our behavior, the health of our families, and how well we work together. More and more we are finally beginning to realize that mental health issues impact all of us and more in the healthcare workplace than we have traditionally acknowledged. Both speakers will share their perspectives on what they witness Albertans doing each day to make steady our minds and we’ll discuss together the work yet to be done.
