"Data literacy is no longer a luxury. It is a must, just like financial literacy, and is the critical link that allows data and analytics to be translated into actionable insights that are relevant to key organizational decisions."
- Mara Lederman, Associate Professor, Strategic Management

There is a lot of hype around big data and data analytics but many leaders lack a thorough understanding of what data can do and how to put it to work for their organization. In this session, Professor Mara Lederman will demystify some of the most common uses and applications of data. She’ll introduce participants to the three broad ways that organizations can use data - descriptive analysis, predictive analysis, and prescriptive analysis. Through discussion and case examples, she'll introduce you to the objectives and limitations of each type and help you get you started on the path toward leveraging the data assets of your organization.

Guest Speaker: Professor Mara Lederman, Associate Professor, Strategic Management

Mara joined the faculty of the Rotman School of Management in 2003 after completing her PhD in Economics at MIT. Mara does empirical research in the areas of Industrial Organization and Organizational Economics. At a broad level, Mara studies how companies compete and how they organize themselves for competitive advantage. Her work has been published in the American Economic Review, the RAND Journal of Economics and the Review of Economics and Statistics, among others. On the teaching side, Mara delivers courses on business strategy, data analytics, and business problem-solving in Rotman’s MBA and Executive Education programs. Mara is also the Director of Research Resources and Centres for the School.
