2018 marks the 100th anniversary of Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA), one of the longest running voluntary health organizations in Canada. Since its establishment in 1918, CMHA has grown to provide services and supports to more than 1.3 million Canadians through the combined efforts of more than 11,000 volunteers and staff in over 330 communities across Canada. CMHA has also been at the forefront of improving attitudes about mental health and mental illness.

This presentation will provide an overview of CMHA’s history and their role as the nation-wide leader and champion for mental health. It will also discuss the leadership challenges and opportunities for the organization from national and provincial perspectives in a time of growing awareness and acceptance of mental health issues. The session is an opportunity to learn more about CMHA’s leadership experiences as they work to promote mental health for all, and support the resilience and recovery of people experiencing mental illness.
