The health care system in Manitoba is in a state of transformation as we move towards a sustainable, integrated provincial delivery system designed to improve health outcomes and the patient experience. As health care organizations are integrated to better respond to client needs, the role of leadership is evolving. Senior management needs to set the course for change, but leadership in implementing the change needs to be experienced throughout the organization. What are the attributes, competencies and tools required by this new leader?

Our speaker, Beth Beaupre will reflect upon the current leadership environment and provide her perspective on skills and attributes needed to move the health system forward to serve the health needs of the population in an aligned, sustainable way. Beth is currently Assistant Deputy Minister in the Department of Health, Seniors and Active Living. She is responsible for overseeing health human resources planning, health sector bargaining and the administration of fee-for-service and insured benefits. Prior to her appointment in April, 2012, Beth held leadership positions in medical staff and human resources administration with the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority as Executive Director of the Joint Operating Division (Winnipeg Regional Health Authority and University of Manitoba) and Director of Human Resources for the Health Sciences Centre Winnipeg, respectively. Beth is in transition to a new role as the Provincial Lead, Health Workforce with Shared Health in the months ahead.
