Featured Speaker: Lieutenant-Colonel Manon Asselin

Lieutenant-Colonel Manon Asselin enrolled in the Canadian Forces in 1988 with the Naval Reserve and was commissioned under the Direct Entry Officer Program in 1998.

Lieutenant-Colonel Asselin has served in various Naval Reserve unit prior joining the Regular Force. From 1988 to 1998, she was part of the crew of the following units: HMCS Champlain, HMCS Donnaconna, HMCS Scotian, HMCS Gatineau, Damage Control School and Maritime Operations Group Five, Submarine Squadron and various Reserve Forces vessels. In 1992, she did an operational tour on-board HMCS Gatineau in the Adriatic Sea under the STANAVFORLANT and NATO umbrella. In 1997, following her participation to CANZEX, an exchange program between the Royal Canadian Navy and the Royal New Zealand Navy, she left the Naval Reserve and joined the Regular Force as a Health Care Administrator. She obtained her commission in June of 1998.

Since 1998, her assignments have included many positions in many Health Services units across Canada, from primary care clinics to deployable Field Ambulances. She was the lead Health Services Support planner for Operation PODIUM (2010 Olympics) and Operation CADENCE (2010 G8 summit). She deployed to Kabul, Afghanistan on Operation ATTENTION from September 2012 to July 2013 were she was employed as a mentor to Senior Health Services Afghan Officer. Promoted to her current rank in 2014, she returns to Canadian Forces Health Services Headquarters Ottawa, where she hold the position of Senior Staff Officer Resources and management as well as Acting Director Health Services Delivery. She is currently employed as the Chief of Staff 4 Health Services Group Headquarters, formation with 21 medical units under its responsibility with close to 3000 employees (military members, public servants and contractors).

Lieutenant-Colonel Asselin is a graduate of the University of Montreal, École des Hautes Études Commerciales and has completed a Short Program – Master in Project Management from Université du Québec en Outaouais. She currently holds a Canadian Health Executive certificate recognized by the Canadian College of Health Leaders (CCHL) and she is currently the Chair of the CCHL Starlight Chapter.
