David Byres, DNP, MSN, BSN (Hons.), BA, RN, CHE


Dr. David Byres is the Associate Deputy Minister, Clinical Leadership, for the Ministry of Health. David is responsible for population and public health, primary care, specialized services, provincial, hospital and laboratory health services, pharmaceutical therapies and Pharmacare, beneficiaries’ services, indigenous health and provincial patient care issues. In addition, David leads the provincial nursing policy secretariat and is the Chief Nurse Executive for the Province of BC.

David has more than 20 years experience in the health sector including as Vice President and Chief of Professional Practice and Nursing at Providence Health Care. He is an adjunct professor with the School of Nursing at the University of British Columbia and an adjunct assistant professor at the School of Nursing at the University of Victoria. He holds a fellowship in management for executive nurses from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. In 2018 he received the Dean’s Medal of Distinction from the Faculty of Applied Science at the University of British Columbia.
