Josee Dumas, chair of the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Reconciliation (DEIR) council at Newfoundland Labrador Health Services, will share her reflections as a leader in diversity, equity and inclusion over the last 15 years. Josee will describe how the DEIR council began, key achievements and successes of the council, challenges that the council has experienced and key learnings in her role as chair.

Josee Dumas is the manager of Language Access Services at NL Health Services. Formally, from Montreal Quebec, Josee obtained a Bachelor in Food Science (Dietetics) at McGill University. She started her career as a Dietitian in St. John’s, NL but was always interested in the work of Organizational Behaviour and decided to pursue her MBA at Memorial University. She has held multiple roles under Eastern Health, now NL Health Services, most recently being HR Strategist – Organizational Behaviour. In her role as a Strategist, she has led many initiatives in the areas of diversity and inclusion, civility and respect, engagement, recognition, healthy workplace, and leadership. She is a certified LEADS facilitator and has been teaching a variety of courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels at the MUN Faculty of Business Administration for over 20 years. Josee has always been interested in the principles of equity and the work of diversity and inclusion ensuring it was always at the forefront of her work and top of mind for the Executive. Her greatest satisfaction has been in the work accomplished through the newly formed provincial DEIR Council.
