A psychologically healthy and safe workplace is one that actively works to prevent harm to workers’ psychological health and that promotes psychological well-being. During this session, we will learn about the National Standard of Canada, published in Spring 2013, and commissioned by the Mental Health Commission of Canada. The impact of not addressing psychological health and safety in the workplace and, conversely, the positive effects experienced by organizations that implement evidence-based psychological health and safety strategies will be reviewed. Although many factors influence an individual’s psychological make-up, the workplace plays a large part in daily life and is therefore important in maintaining and promoting well-being. There will be greater understanding of the shared responsibility by both the workplace/employer and the individual/employee for maintaining and improving that well-being.
