Indigenous Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
National Circle for Indigenous Medical Education (NCIME)
The National Circle for Indigenous Medical Education (NCIME) is an Indigenous-governed and led not-for-profit, inclusive of a partnership council with the Association of Faculties of Medicine Canada (AFMC), the Medical Council of Canada (MCC), the Indigenous Physicians Association of Canada (IPAC), the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC), and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC).
NCIME’s mandate is to:
- provide leadership, guidance, and knowledge translation (KT) tools to medical schools and medical education organizations across Canada.
- inform the process of re-evaluating undergraduate and postgraduate medical education environments to ensure that they are welcoming and supportive of Indigenous learners and faculty while providing critical training and education in Indigenous health and safe, trauma-informed care for all faculty and learners.
- guide medical schools and medical education organizations to meaningfully address the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action on health care, the MMIWG Calls to Justice, and recommendations put forth by the In Plain Sight report, the findings of the Brian Sinclair Working Group, and recommendations made by Joyce’s Principle, among others.
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Chief Executive Officer provides strategic, administrative, and organizational leadership to ensure NCIME delivers on its mandate to provide leadership, guidance, and knowledge translation (KT) tools to medical schools and medical education organizations across Canada.
The CEO will build on the momentum already established and the many positive relationships already in place between NCIME and national organizations. They will join a community of excellent and committed people with a high degree of camaraderie and support.
As the ideal candidate, you are a credible Indigenous leader, with a track record of leadership in medical education and a deep understanding of Indigenous populations. As a respected representative and effective communicator, you understand how to engage in a complex, multi-partner environment that includes leader in medical education, government and policy makers, and national medical organizations to name a few. You are personable, curious, strategic, results-based, politically astute and have a passion for NCIME’s mission. You have strong conflict management and problem-solving skills and are comfortable leading an organization that is focused on growth and evolution. Peers and colleagues describe you as a leader and mentor with a high degree of integrity who understands how to build diverse, high performing teams and enjoy growing and developing leaders of the future. Ideally, you have experience reporting directly to a Board of Directors or comparable governing body. The CEO may be located anywhere across the country.
