The Medical Society of Prince Edward Island (MSPEI) is a dynamic professional association representing the province’s physicians. With a mission to advance healthcare and advocate for the well-being of doctors and their patients, MSPEI serves as the unified voice for the medical community on Prince Edward Island. The organization is dedicated to fostering a supportive environment for physicians through advocacy, professional development, and collaboration with health system stakeholders. MSPEI plays a pivotal role in shaping healthcare policy, enhancing physician wellness, and improving patient outcomes. With the new groundbreaking Physician Services Agreement, MSPEI is driving innovative solutions and providing enhanced support for physicians, strengthening healthcare for all Islanders. Joining MSPEI means becoming part of a passionate team committed to making a meaningful impact on the health and well-being of Islanders.

Reporting to the Chief, Strategy & Physician Services, the Director of Physician Wellness and Professionalism is a key member of MSPEI’s leadership team, responsible for creating an environment that prioritizes physician well-being and fulfilment while elevating the profession’s capacity to achieve the highest level of professional standing, leadership and inclusivity. This role will directly contribute to physician retention and the overall strength and sustainability of the health system. The Director is responsible for identifying the enablers and barriers that influence physicians’ personal well-being and workplace culture and will work closely with partners to build a vision for a future healthier state. They will lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of strategies and programs that address these challenges, to ensure measurable and impactful results. With a creative and strategic mindset, the Director excels in creating new initiatives from a blank canvas, as well as connecting the dots across the healthcare system to align on shared objectives.

A resilient leader with high emotional intelligence, the Director is skilled in navigating complex systems and managing change effectively. They create a psychologically safe environment where physicians feel supported and valued, empowering open dialogue and ensuring well-being. The Director is adept at facilitating difficult conversations. Their strong interpersonal and communication skills enable them to build and maintain trusted relationships with physicians, health system leaders, and other partners. They are able to demonstrate the value of their work, using data and evidence to show measurable improvements in physician well-being, professional satisfaction and retention. The Director combines big-picture thinking with hands-on execution, ensuring that strategies are translated into tangible outcomes that support the overall goals of the organization.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 7 years of leadership experience implementing culture-focused initiatives that deliver measurable results. Experience within a healthcare system would be considered a strong asset. A post-secondary education in a relevant discipline such as healthcare administration, organizational psychology, human resources or business is preferred. Working within a smaller organization, the successful candidate will need to demonstrate resourcefulness, adaptability, and the ability to maximize impact. They embody MSPEI’s core values of high performance, leadership, and professionalism, and are deeply committed to fostering a positive and high-functioning medical profession in PEI.
