Featured Speakers:

Jason Cook

Jason has had a fulfilling healthcare career journey for over thirty years. He has worked in a variety of areas including non-profits, First Nations, and Health Authorities and has been in senior leadership roles for the last 15 years.

Professionally, Jason has been a Registered Clinical Counsellor for over 25 years and has practiced in the areas of grief, loss, and trauma. Jason has also been a member of CCHL for over ten years and has his CHE designation.

Jason has had the privilege to live and raise his family in the Fraser Valley which is home to the Matsqui Sumas and Kwantlen First Nations. He has been married for over 30 years, has two young adult kids – a son who is on a golf scholarship in California and a daughter who has graduated from UBC and looking to start her masters in audiology. Jason also has one grand puppy, Mabel, a Portuguese Water Dog. Jason’s active life includes golf, golf, and golf! He also enjoys kayaking. Most recently, he has taken up rowing and the ‘sport' of meditation (a sport!).

For the past 25 years, Jason’s career was with Fraser Health. During this time, he held several leadership roles including managing in acute, residential and hospice settings, being the Director of Site Operations at a tertiary hospital and 9 years as Executive Director of a community hospital and health service area as well as being the Executive Lead for FHA Critical Care Network and a Lead with Critical Care BC services during the COVID pandemic.

Most recently, after 25 years of leading others, Jason has shifted to leading self – as a patient and client experiencing a complex health issue. Jason has shared that his current role as a “Leader – leading self” has been the most challenging and transformative both personally and professionally of his life. Despite the challenges of the situation, Jason is now learning to live, lead and embrace a new infinite game.

Jason notes that CCHL has always sparked increased self-awareness and focused opportunities for growth and learning as a leader. The recent CWHLC Conference’s focus of “Caring for people who care for people” was very timely and has both inspired and motivated him to live and lead from renewed paradigm. Attending the conference this past year has helped him shift his focus from outward to inward and he is envisioning a new future forward for himself.

Jason is honoured and humbled to share some of his insights, reflections, and honest transparency about his leadership journey in rejuvenating his own leadership soul – the importance of caring for self: mentally, emotionally, and physically as a human and leader of healthcare.
