Reporting to the VP of Corporate Services, the Director of Analytics, Quality and Risk (AQR) is an accomplished innovative critical thinker and visionary leader, who will lead and develop the new AQR team to become a cohesive, responsive and supportive corporate service. Through five direct reports the functions reporting to the Director include decision support, corporate risk and quality, accreditation, patient experience, privacy, protective services and emergency response.

The Director of AQR is an influential leadership role that will drive the ongoing evolution of the organization-wide quality system, to one that is highly adaptive, that fosters a CQI culture and uses CQI tools and strategies for stakeholders to assess and improve clinical practice, health care delivery and services. The Director will have a key role in designing the EMR (electronic medical record) Benefit Realization model with the Chief of Staff and the Senior Leadership Team (SLT). Under the guidance of the Director, the AQR team will provide foundational support for this model, and be a strategic enabler to achieve the organization’s goal to become an EMRAM 7 hospital. The Director of AQR will work closely with the Clinician and Physician leadership, informatics, and support teams to support clinical practice improvements, as well as process and system optimizations.

It is the responsibility of the Director of AQR to ensure the integrity of data utilized by the Board and the SLT to support significant strategic and operational decisions. As well, the Director is responsible for organization-wide risk management which includes overseeing the Integrated Risk Management process and recommending risk mitigation strategies to the SLT and the Board.
The Director is accountable and shares responsibility with NBRHC leadership to assure the provision of safe, quality and cost effective healthcare for our patients and community in alignment with the organization’s mission, vision and values.

Further responsibilities of this position will include but are not limited to:
  • Leading monthly, quarterly and annual reporting, monitoring and forecasting of the hospital's key performance indicators. This includes developing and implementing appropriate analytical tools for reviewing statistical as well as financial information, where appropriate, to enable effective decision making.
  • Contributing quality expertise and analysis in support of innovative approaches to health system models of care, service delivery and analytics.
  • A focus on quality improvement through ongoing monitoring and implementation of initiatives and remedies to provide high quality services to all stakeholders.
  • Liaising with senior team, clinical and physician leadership, to develop, recommend and implement CQI initiatives in partnership with the clinical quality teams.
  • Liaising with external healthcare organization, hospitals and service providers to learn and share best practices in EMR benefit realization and CQI initiatives.
  • Monitoring risk and compliance through the integrated risk management process.
  • Leading the hospital's journey to greater analytics maturity and achievement of its goal to set the standard in using analytics to maximize quality outcomes, efficiency, and continuing quality improvements.
  • Directing and monitoring policies and procedures related to decision support, corporate risk and quality, privacy, protective services and emergency response within the hospital.
  • Continue to advance a decision support, corporate risk management and quality that effectively positions the team as strategic business partners across the Hospital and Health Care System.
  • Identify opportunities to position the Hospital for future success in Ontario’s evolving landscape of health care funding and service delivery models.
  • Provide strategic and operational leadership regarding opportunities and challenges associated with service delivery, clinical practice, system optimization, and process improvements.
  • Continue to build internal and external leadership within a multi-stakeholder environment.
  • Leading annual and multi-year operating and capital budgeting processes within the AQR department.
  • Provide support and leadership to the AQR team to foster their growth and development to become proactive, responsive, supportive, reliable and innovative consultants and leaders.
Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in business, or a health related program. Applicable experience with a business or health related College diploma will also be considered.
  • Five to seven years’ experience in progressive leadership roles in related fields, in complex multi-stakeholder environment(s). Experience in health care and/or public sector/not-for-profit is an asset.
  • Strong continuous quality improvement acumen with solid experience in performance measurement, service delivery and process improvements.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills with the ability to identify trends, establish benchmarks, as well as provide credible analysis and recommendations.
  • High emotional intelligence with excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to articulate complex issues to a broad audience.
  • Ability to work and thrive in a changing environment while experiencing financial constraints.
  • Evidence of a collaborative leadership style with effective team building skills across interdisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent decision making skills with the ability to form and defend independent judgment with the ability to influence others and outcomes.
  • Proven experience achieving results that improve the organization and inspire confidence and commitment.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to effectively handle a large number of issues simultaneously.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work efficiently and accurately under stressful conditions to meet tight deadlines
  • Must be change orientated and possess an attitude of continuous improvement.
  • Ability to gain cooperation and support through effective use of influence and persuasion required as an agent of change.
  • Broad knowledge of health care system design, related issues and trends, policies and up to date knowledge of current legislations;
  • Coach, mentor and develop leaders within the AQR team.
  • Excellent computer skills with good knowledge of Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Must be able to support and contribute to a culture of safety and prevention of adverse health events in our organization
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset
