Regional Operations Manager, West

The Eastern Ontario Regional Laboratory Association (EORLA) is currently seeking a dynamic Regional Operations Manager, West, (ROMW) to join our team. Reporting to the Vice President of Operations, the ROMW will provide leadership, direction and operational oversight to their Site Managers, and their respective laboratories, within the Ottawa Valley. The West Region is currently comprised of the following Member Hospitals*:
  • Almonte General Hospital
  • Arnprior Regional Health
  • Carleton Place & District Memorial Hospital
  • Deep River & District Hospital
  • Kemptville District Hospital
  • Pembroke Regional Hospital
  • Queensway Carleton Hospital
  • Renfrew Victoria Hospital
  • St. Francis Memorial Hospital in Barry’s Bay
  • Winchester District Memorial Hospital
*The primary office allocation will be at one of the above-noted member sites and determined based on availability of space as well as the specific circumstances of the successful candidate.

What is EORLA?

EORLA is a member-owned, non-profit organization encompassing the operation of 18 licensed, acute-care, hospital-based clinical laboratories that service clinical programs across the Champlain Region of Eastern Ontario. EORLA laboratories provide diagnostic testing to both hospital inpatients and registered outpatients, performing a total of approximately 13 million tests annually. Comprehensive testing in the disciplines of Anatomic Pathology, Biochemistry, Transfusion Medicine, Hematopathology, and Microbiology/Virology is performed.

What does the ROMW do?
  • Provides ongoing leadership to site managers within their designated region;
  • Establishes and implements operational strategies and practices across the region to increase EORLA’s impact;
  • Fosters efficient, consistent and high-quality service delivery, and works in close collaboration with regionally-based stakeholders;
  • Serves as the key liaison to the senior leadership teams at each member site to ensure a successful partnership between the site lab(s) and the hospital(s) it supports;
  • Ensures that services meet current regulatory and compliance requirements, and that they are delivered using appropriate standards of practice;
  • Fosters a culture of innovation and service excellence throughout the region;
  • Ensures that ongoing operations are effectively and efficiently delivered in order to meet the strategic priorities and financial goals;
  • Advances continuous quality improvement initiatives in support of service delivery and cost-efficient strategies;
  • Provides ongoing communications and reporting to EORLA-member hospital executive leadership regarding defined performance metrics consistent with EORLA’s corporate communications direction;
  • Effectively manages and establishes the relationships with member clients within the region;
  • Oversees the ongoing development and deployment of EORLA’s quality management system, and ensures that all accreditation-related activities are carried out as required across the region;
  • Works closely and in collaboration with Regional Discipline Leads and hospital Laboratory Directors to assess and respond to service delivery needs, planning requirements, and patient safety;
  • Leads and guides the development and implementation of significant initiatives, strategies and approaches in support of organization-wide innovation and change management initiatives;
  • Provides support and advice to the Vice President, Operations, various committees, and working groups within and outside EORLA;
  • Oversees the management of the financial and human resources of the region.

Who is right for this position?
  • A proven leader with a degree or diploma in a relevant discipline;
  • An accomplished people manager with a minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience;
  • Someone who is passionate about healthcare, and has experience working as a leader in a hospital, clinical, or laboratory environment;
  • A well-rounded professional with experience in human resources management, financial management and project and time management;
  • A safe driver with a valid license and vehicle as regular travel between laboratory sites is required.
Skills and knowledge that are crucial to your success in the role:
  • Knowledge and understanding of hospital systems at a regional level;
  • Keen understanding of how laboratories interact with the broader hospital system;
  • Ability to engage and inspire others toward a common vision;
  • Skilled at building collaborative relationships with diverse groups of stakeholders;

  • Ability to assess and identify performance improvement opportunities;
  • Ability to and experience with successfully leading others through change;
  • Proven decision-making skills;
  • Exceptional communication skills;
  • Highly motivated;
  • Demonstrated organizational abilities.
As a pre-condition of employment, all new EORLA employees will be required to obtain and provide a satisfactory Criminal Records Check dated within six (6) months from the date of issue.

Qualifications that stand out:
  • Master’s degree in Health Administration or Business Administration;
  • Laboratory background is considered an asset;
  • Bilingual (French and English) is considered an asset.
