Director, Quality and Compliance


St. Joseph’s Care Group is an established leader in client-centred health care in Thunder Bay, Ontario.  We specialize in Rehabilitative Care, Addictions & Mental Health, and Seniors’ Health services.  Our values of Care, Compassion and Commitment drive our Strategic Plan.

Reporting to the Administrator, Seniors' Health, the Director, Quality and Compliance is responsible for overseeing and managing the quality and compliance program within Hogarth Riverview Manor located in Thunder Bay, ON. This will be accomplished by collaborating with the Director(s) of Care, Clinical Managers, and others to ensure that the quality improvement program of the home is implemented, monitored and evaluated annually. The components of the quality program consist of quality measures in the Corporate Quality Improvement Program (QIP), the required programs under the Long-Term Care Homes Act, the staff and resident satisfaction action plans, compliance action plans, and the audit program of the home designed to achieve and/or sustain compliance. The Director, Quality and Compliance collaborates with others in the Home and St. Joseph's Care Group to provide relevant results of the audits and measures and to participate in the creation of these plans at the appropriate level. In addition to working through others to ensure implementation of the quality and compliance programs, a significant aspect of this role requires the ability to influence change through building positive relationships that lead individuals and teams to strive for improved quality of resident care.


  • Bachelor of Science Nursing Degree or other degree related health care profession
  • Minimum three years' working experience in a managerial or supervisory capacity in the health or social services sectors
  • Experience assessing quality of care against legislative requirements such as the Long-Term Care Homes Act or similar legislation
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to interpret applicable legislation and related regulations, codes, and standards; specifically, the Long-Term Care Homes Act and its regulation
  • Superior analytical and data base skills
  • Proficiency with standard software with advanced Excel skills; familiarity with MED e-care an asset
  • Ability to track numerous audit programs and assist managers to utilize the data to proactively improve quality of care
  • Ability to advise the team on areas of priority in an environment of competing priorities and provide sound rationale
  • Excellent project/time management, analytical/critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Superior ability to communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Superior ability to deliver presentations to a variety of audiences primarily HRM management and staff
  • Ability to identify, understand, and meet/exceed the requirements of internal stakeholders
  • Strong leadership skills, including the ability motivate, evaluate, and recognize staff; proven ability to share skills and knowledge with others
  • Proven conflict management abilities
  • Competent within the meaning of the Occupational Health & Safety Act
  • Knowledge of the functions of the St. Joseph's Care Group organization would be an asset
Conditions of Employment:
  • May be required to obtain certificate in Long-Term Care Administration within first three years
  • Must undergo a successful police records check/vulnerable sector screen
  • Must work and attend meetings outside regular working hours
  • May be required to travel to various SJCG work locations from time to time and provide own transportation
