Join the Manitoba Chapter for a fireside chat with Arle Jones who will share her unique leadership journey, lessons learned, and perspectives on navigating the healthcare system.

Arle Jones, Chief Operating Officer at Deer Lodge Health Centre

Arle Jones is a leader that cares deeply about excellence in healthcare service delivery and continuous quality improvement to ensure the best health outcomes and experiences are realized for all. A social worker by background, Arle has held many clinical frontline and administrative positions throughout her 26 years in health care in the areas of Primary Health Care, Acute Care, Long-Term Care, Mental Health and Community Home Care within the WRHA. Most recently prior to coming to Deer Lodge Health Centre in June of 2024, she held the position of Executive Director in the Departments of Mental Health and Community Wellness and Housing, Addictions and Homelessness for the Government of Manitoba. During her time as the Director of Primary Health Care, Integrated Palliative, Primary and Home Health Services in the WRHA, she was honoured to receive the CCHL Distinguished Service Award in 2022. In addition to her social work background, Arle completed a Graduate Certificate in Health Systems Leadership at Royal Roads University and is on route to complete an MBA at the University of Fredericton.

Arle enjoys spending time with her family and volunteering at a local pet rescues with her nephew.


Jan Byrd, CHE, Healthcare Excellence Canada’s Director of Health Policy

Jan Byrd is passionate about co-designing policy that improves care quality and safety in healthcare systems and communities. Jan was an early adopter in the Canadian patient safety and quality movement, having worked at the Manitoba Institute for Patient Safety (MIPS), and at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, as Manager of Quality, Patient Safety, and Patient Relations for several years. She holds a Master’s degree, focused in Sociology of Health, Illness and Medicine; a Lean Certification; and the Certified Health Executive (CHE) designation from the Canadian College of Health Leaders (CCHL). In 2018, she was first runner up in The Great Canadian Healthcare Debate, at the National Health Leaders Conference in St. John’s, Newfoundland. Jan served two consecutive Ministerial Appointments on the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority Board of Directors, where she also Chaired the Board’s Quality and Safety Committee. Jan enjoys volunteering as the Chair of the Manitoba Chapter of the Canadian College of Healthcare Leaders Board. Outside of work, Jan enjoys spending time with her two teens and their Australian Shepherd, Ace. Jan is also a classical soprano in Winnipeg’s premiere professional choir, The Winnipeg Singers.
