Announcement regarding COVID-19 and the CCHL June events

April 7, 2020

The Canadian College of Health Leaders continues to assess, cancel or postpone events on a daily basis as we monitor developments. Today, we wanted to announce decisions on the status of our June events, initially planned in Edmonton, Alberta from June 12 to June 17, 2020.

Protecting the health, safety, and well-being of our attendees, speakers, sponsors, exhibitors and staff is paramount. We have been actively monitoring the situation and following guidance from the Public Health Agency of Canada and the Chief Medical Officer of Health from Alberta, and we have adjusted our events and programming accordingly.

National Health Leadership Conference (NHLC)

The 2020 National Health Leadership Conference (NHLC) has been cancelled. The conference’s program will move to next year’s event in Montreal and NHLC will return to Edmonton in 2024. Click here to read the NHLC announcement.

College AGM and CHE Convocation

The College’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), originally scheduled on June 14, will either be moved to October at the BC Health Leaders Conference in Victoria, BC, or it will become an online-only meeting at a date to be announced.

The CHE Convocation has also been postponed. It will either be moved to October at the BC Health Leaders Conference or it will become a virtual event.

June Meetings

The following College meetings, all initially scheduled around the National Health Leadership Conference, will now take place virtually in June 2020 or later. The exact dates and details for each of these meetings will be announced to their respective participants at a later time:

  • The June Board of Directors meeting
  • The Chapter Advisory Council meeting
  • The Corporate Advisory Council meeting
  • The Joint-Retreat with our Board, Chapters and Staff
  • The Meeting of the academic alliance program directors

Awards

Although the National Awards Program and the related award announcements are proceeding as scheduled, the Honouring Health Leadership awards gala originally scheduled for June 14 has been postponed. The event will be done virtually or, if possible, will be moved to October at the BC Health Leaders Conference. The same decision has been made for the 3M Health Care Quality Team Awards Luncheon and the Robert Wood Johnson Awards Luncheon. The exact dates and details for these events will be announced shortly.

LEADS Exchange Day

The LEADS Exchange Day will become an online-only event. The in-person event is cancelled, and a date for the new half-day virtual activity will be announced shortly.

In response to the COVID-19 crisis, the College has rolled out a three-part program to provide our members with real-time, practical and succinct information and support. This includes information in real-time through a special webinar series, a program to manage and facilitate chapter continuity through a structured approach to Annual General Meeting delivery, and finally, a social media strategy to share and disseminate timely and curated information for easy consumption by busy health leaders.

We would like to thank all the dedicated College members, health workers, industry partners and leaders who are actively working diligently to manage the COVID-19 pandemic.
