About Us:

The Long-Term Care Inspections Branch oversees the Fixing Long-Term Care Homes Act, 2021 to ensure compliance with its legislation and regulations.

The Long-Term Care Operations Division will help deliver on the ministry’s key priorities for Long-Term Care. Working with partners from across the Ministry and government, the Division leads the design, development, and implementation of legislation, regulation, and policy. Providing program/sector oversight and administration, the Division provides oversight and ensures accountability and compliance of Long-Term Care Homes with applicable legislation and Ministry policy. The Long-Term Care Operations Division is comprised of the Assistant Deputy Minister’s Office and also includes three branches: the Long-Term Care Inspections Branch, Operational Policy and Implementation Branch and the Funding and Programs Branch.

Deliver on Business Goals and Priorities

Your leadership will be crucial in guiding the team towards the achievement of its business goals. It will be your responsibility to inspire and motivate your team to deliver their best performance and align the team’s daily actions with the strategic vision of the ministry. You will contribute to the achievement of team goals by:

  • Directly manage inspectors, overseeing their performance evaluations and setting performance standards.
  • Provide program leadership and procedural support to the District Manager, assisting with issues management and operational activities.
  • Support District Managers in managing the LQIP Inspection program, including planning, leading activities, and ensuring efficient service delivery.
  • Share 24/7 on-call responsibilities with other managers, participating in a monthly rotation.
  • Offer procedural advice on the LQIP to District Managers, Inspectors, and clients, aiding in the interpretation and enforcement of legislation.
  • Assist inspectors in complex cases, providing guidance on inspections, report preparation, and enforcement actions.
  • Develop innovative approaches for a high-quality compliance inspection program and foster information exchange with Ministry staff.
  • Stay updated on legislation and processes related to long-term care, contributing to issues management and strategy development.

Technical Expertise:

  • You have superior knowledge of Ontario’s health care system, mandates, services, programs, governing legislation and the Ministry’s transition plan, objectives, service and program delivery structure.
  • You have demonstrated understanding of Long-Term Care Homes Act and regulations, Inspection processes including the Proactive Inspection and IT applications Inspection Protocols, program policies and procedures, issues and operation of Long-Term Care homes.
  • You have demonstrated understanding of current long-term care homes operations, client population and sector groups and of current trends, issues and concerns affecting various aspects of the health care system.
  • You have an understanding and familiarity with the scope of practice, education and training of regulated health professionals.

Program Management Skills:

  • You have analytical and problem-solving skills to develop compliance inspection priorities manage risk, accountability and reporting frameworks, performance measurement tools and dispute resolution processes.
  • You have knowledge of risk management techniques to lead development of operational and program review frameworks, accountability and reporting mechanisms.
  • You have strategic, thinking, innovation, creativity and change management skills to manage program and service delivery in a transitional and transformational environment.

Communication and Stakeholder Management Skills:

  • You have communications and marketing techniques and processes to manage the development, production and distribution of information materials, products and systems to stakeholder organizations.
  • You can share experiences, seek advice and collaborate with various stakeholders on strategic and service initiatives.
