South Bruce Grey Health Centre (SBGHC) is seeking applications for a Vice President of Patient Care/Chief Nursing Executive (CNE). SBGHC serves the people living in the Southern part of Bruce and Grey Counties, with hospitals in the communities of Kincardine, Walkerton, Chesley and Durham.

As an inspiring and authentic nurse leader, the successful candidate will provide strategic, operational, and transformational leadership to the SBGHC. The successful candidate should be an engaged, compassionate, results-oriented leader with a track record of building successful teams and partnerships, who can work closely with a passionate hospital team to deliver high-quality care and outstanding patient experiences.

Reporting to the President & CEO, the Vice President (VP) of Patient Care and Chief Nursing Executive (CNE) is a member of the Senior Leadership Team and is responsible for the leadership of nursing and the delivery of quality patient care across all four sites of the South Bruce Grey Health Centre (SBGHC). The VP of Patient Care/CNE is responsible for the ongoing evaluation of clinical nursing programs and activities to support organizational and departmental philosophy, quality initiatives, goals and objectives of the patient care service departments.  The VP of Patient Care/CNE participates at the executive level responsibility for tactical, organizational, strategic planning and implementation. This role supports an overall organizational culture conducive to safe quality care.

The VP of Patient Care/CNE will:

  • Provide leadership that fosters a safe and healthy environment for the patients we serve in our four communities, as well as for our staff and physicians
  • Provide leadership and direction to a team of patient care and clinical managers on day-to-day operating issues across the four sites of SBGHC, while maintaining a clear focus on strategic initiatives
  • Coach and mentor direct reports to create opportunities for managerial and professional development success
  • Collaborate with SBGHC physician leaders including the Corporate Chief of Staff, and the four Site Chiefs
  • Utilize metrics to ensure the achievement of identified program and corporate quality and safety outcomes
  • Be accountable for maintaining a balanced budget, and developing appropriate action plans to address variances
  • Plan and implement evidence-based best practices, including new technologies, to support and enhance patient care delivery, improving efficiency and safety and minimizing risk to patients and staff
  • Sit as an ex-officio member of the SBGHC Board of Directors
  • Demonstrate ability to support and embrace our philosophy of Patient and Family Centered Care
  • Champion our values, and embody a culture of both engagement and accountability
  • Earn the respect and trust of internal and external stakeholders through effective collaboration and communication
  • Participate in regional networks and committees, including the South West CNE regional network and the Grey Bruce Ontario Health Team
  • Participate in corporate on call

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Master’s Degree in a health care related field (preferred)
  • Nursing degree
  • Currently registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • 10 years of progressive clinical hospital leadership experience
  • Demonstrated leadership ability, with experience as a collaborator and team-builder
  • Demonstrated success and experience in health system planning, organizational leadership, management, labour relations, financial management, and communications
  • A visible and compassionate leader who listens, consults, collaborates and is able to coach and mentor others
  • Proven track-record of conceptualizing and operationalizing innovative ideas
  • A leadership style that inspires excellence, innovation and interdisciplinary teamwork
  • A demonstrated commitment to professional development and continuing education
  • Experience in a multi-site organization would be an asset
  • The ability to build relationships and work well different personalities

South Bruce Grey Health Centre is a four-site, 66-bed hospital located in mid-western Ontario with locations in Kincardine, Walkerton, Chesley and Durham. We serve a community of 44,000 people, plus 10,000 seasonal residents and 30,000 tourists across our catchment area. We are located two hours from Toronto and London, and 90 minutes from the Kitchener-Waterloo area.
