The Alberta Medical Association (AMA) is a not–for-profit organization which is the official voice of the medical profession in Alberta. Founded the same year as the province – 1905 – the AMA represents the interests of more than 95% of the 14,000 Alberta physicians, residents, and medical students.  The association advocates for and supports Alberta physicians, strengthening their leadership in the provision of sustainable health care. Members share their time and expertise by participating in a wide range of leadership and committee roles within their organization.

The Executive Director is appointed by the Board of Directors as the Chief Executive Officer of the AMA (the “Association”). The position is responsible to the Board, through the President and Executive Committee, for the general direction and administration of the day-to-day affairs of the Association. This role is charged with assisting the President, Executive Committee and Board in the development and implementation of the Association’s policies. The Executive Director has delegated authority from, and is accountable to, the Board for the successful implementation of Association policies and programs.

As Executive Director, you will have earned a master’s degree in business, economics, health economics, public health, or a relevant field. In addition, you have experience working with the government and navigating changing political landscapes. You will be a dynamic and visionary leader with a demonstrated track record of negotiating and working with multiple stakeholders. You possess strong financial acumen and have experience working with large, complex budgets.

With an authentic and demonstrated commitment to, understanding of, and experience working with a Board of Directors, the successful candidate will advocate for and support Alberta physician’s leadership in a high-performing health system, economic well being and wellness.
