Associate Chief Medical Officer, Academic Medicine & Medical Services:
Help shape Alberta’s healthcare future! AHS has an exciting opportunity for a senior medical leader to influence and affect change that will help AHS deliver on its promise of an accessible, sustainable healthcare system. As the Associate Chief Medical Officer (ACMO), Academic Medicine, Medical Service Models, and Compensation, you will work to advance AHS’ academic medicine strategy, medical compensation strategy and medical service model design across Alberta, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and ongoing excellence in medical practice.
Combining clinical experience and a proven track record in healthcare administration, you will play a key role within AHS leadership while providing direction and representing your portfolio’s strategic needs to AHS senior leadership. You will participate in external compensation forums, provide oversight and implementation of physician compensation models and strategies, and develop updated service models to optimize physician resources in the AHS workplace
The ACMO, Academic Medicine, Medical Service Models, and Compensation is responsible and accountable to create and implement a sustainable, systematic approach to strategic initiatives supporting academic medicine, medical services models and compensation strategy throughout AHS. In this role, you will work to ensure academic medicine strategy, medical service models and compensation initiatives are incorporated in the provision of clinical services, and achieve measurable improvement in these areas. This includes spearheading, articulating, and promoting the vision for academic medicine strategy, medical service model design and compensation strategic initiatives within AHS. You will direct and oversee medical engagement, and collaborate with key stakeholders to support the design, development, and implementation of policies, tools and strategies to support these strategies while ensuring efficient service model delivery and design. The ACMO will advise stakeholders and steer engagement and consultation of medical staff in development and implementation of portfolio processes and policies. In addition, the ACMO may be assigned to other responsibilities to support the larger CMO portfolio.
Reporting to the Vice President Quality & Chief Medical Officer (CMO), the ACMO, Academic Medicine, Medical Service Models, ACMO works closely with, and provides expert advice to, senior physician leaders such as Senior Medical Directors and Zone Medical Directors. As the ACMO, you will develop and maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders such as AHS operational leaders, Universities, Alberta Health, the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta, the University of Calgary, the University of Alberta, and the Alberta Medical Association.
Associate Chief Medical Officer, Medical Staff Workforce Strategies & QI
Help AHS deliver on its promise of an accessible, sustainable healthcare system by developing and implementing strategies to meet medical staff workforce needs. As the Associate Chief Medical Officer (ACMO), Medical Staff Workforce Strategies and Quality Management, you will play a key leadership role providing direction and representing Medical Staff Workforce and Quality Management initiatives to the Vice President Quality, Chief Medical Officer, and other senior executives. Combining clinical experience and a proven track record in healthcare administration at a senior leadership level, you will be able to balance both organizational needs and address key issues regarding workforce strategies and quality and safety initiatives throughout AHS. The ACMO will work collaboratively with AHS operational leaders to ensure that medical staff workforce strategies and quality improvement initiatives are incorporated into clinical services being provided.
The ACMO, Medical Staff Workforce Strategies and Quality Management is a key leadership role responsible and accountable to create and implement a sustainable, systematic approach to AHS physician medical staff workforce strategies and medical practitioner related quality and safety initiatives. You will spearhead, articulate and promote the vision for medical staff workforce and medical practitioner related quality and safety initiatives within AHS. You will provide strategic direction, prioritization and lead implementation of quality and safety initiatives in the organization, guiding medical staff engagement and focusing on achieving measurable improvement. You will oversee and direct medical engagement to support the design, development and implementation of policies, tools and strategies to support workforce forecasting and recruitment strategies and clinical privileging across Alberta.
Reporting to the Vice President Quality & Chief Medical Officer, you will function in a partnership relationship with the Senior Program Officer, Quality & Healthcare Improvement and will provide advice to senior physician leaders such as Senior Medical Directors, Zone Medical Directors, and Zone Medical Leads for Quality. You will develop/maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, such as AHS Human Resources, AHS Quality & Healthcare Improvement, the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta, the University of Calgary, the University of Alberta, Rural Health Professions Action Plan, Accreditation Canada, Health Quality Council of Alberta and the Alberta Medical Association. You will advise stakeholders and steer engagement and consultation of medical staff in development and implementation of portfolio processes and policies. Additionally, you may be assigned other responsibilities to support the larger CMO portfolio.
A minimum of eligibility for medical, dental or podiatric licensure in Alberta, including certification by the College of Family Physicians of Canada, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, the Royal College of Dentists of Canada or an equivalent professional body. At least 5 years’ leadership experience in health care operations including three years’ experience in a senior leadership role in clinical services or healthcare operations.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Successful record of achievement as a medical leader strategic planning and service delivery in a large and diverse organization, as well as specific and extensive experience in medical staff workforce planning and quality and safety management. Demonstrated ability to manage change and create innovative solutions for complex and diverse issues. Effective communicator with strong organizational skills, client-focused orientation, and commitment to providing long term quality services. The ability to foster partnerships and achieve organizational goals within a large and complex organization.
Demonstrated content expertise in medical staff workforce forecasting and quality and safety management. Possesses Canadian Certified Physician Executive (CCPE) credential and has completed training in quality and safety management.
